Class Description

Improvisation and Individuality are two of the most important stylistic values of Lindy Hop and other jazz-based dances. Rooted in African dance forms and in the need for expression of unique personhood when Black Amercians were going unrecognized as intellectual and expressive individuals throughout their daily lives in 1920s-30s New York City, these values both enrich the dance form and honor its origins. In this class we will give you some improvisational tools and explore ways in which we can find and embrace our individual movements and artistic choices.

Comfort with Lindy Hop basics including six-count footwork, side passes, and swingouts is prerequisit for this class.
